Can the nanny look after my children in a hotel?
Absolutely! If you're staying in a hotel in any of the cities that we service, you can book a nanny to care for your children in your hotel.
Here are some general tips on how to have a positive nanny experience in a hotel setting:
- Instructions: When setting up your babysitting appointment, include clear instructions as to the types of activities you expect the nanny to do with the children, particularly if your appointment is longer than 8 hours.
- Parking: If there is only paid parking in the area around the hotel, state in the instructions whether you're open to paying for the nanny's parking. If not, no problem. The nanny will know that they are responsible for taking transit or for paying for their own parking.
- Swimming: If your hotel has a pool and you'd like the nanny to take your little ones swimming, add this in the instructions section when setting up your babysitting appointment. That way the nanny will come prepared for this.
- Outside Activities: If you're allowing the nanny to take the children outside of the hotel during the appointment, be very clear as to where they can go and how long they can stay out. We recommend writing these instructions in advance for the nanny to follow.
- Spending Money: If you're providing spending money for meals and activities, clearly let the nanny know how the money is to be spent (e.g. $15 for breakfast, $20 for lunch, $30 for dinner, $30 for activities like the aquarium, etc.)
- Food & Snacks: Be clear about which foods and snacks the children are allowed to eat and their eating schedule.
- Room Service: If you're giving the nanny permission to order room service, indicate what they can order and how much they can spend.
- Other expenses: Can the nanny order a movie for the children through the hotel's pay-per-view service? Can they purchase something from the hotel gift shop? Again, be clear about your preferences in advance.
Remember: You are responsible for paying for all of your children's meals, snacks, activities and transportation (if applicable).
Nannies will follow your instructions, so we recommend being as clear and detailed as possible to avoid miscommunications.
